Family Recipes

With many of the STLwed.com gals sharing recipes I thought I would join in. Yesterday with Easter I made two things I thought you would enjoy to share with your family.

For breakfast, Andy and I made my dad's garbage eggs. Sounds gross, I know. But it's really good. They aren't your normal scrambled eggs.

Dad's Garbage Eggs, guide the amount of stuff per person.
eggs
milk
meat- like sausage, turkey or ham
veggies - like tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms, carrots, onions, black olives
cheese
spices- black pepper, garlic, onion, Italian Seasoning, etc

Directions:
cook meat in a skillet
add in whatever veggies you have available
mix eggs and milk in a separate bowl add to cook meat and veggies
add in seasonings
when eggs are all most done add the cheese and turn off the skillet

once cheese is melted enjoy!

Then for Easter Dinner I brought a salad with homemade dressing.

Homemade Dressing:
2oz of Red Wine Vinegar
2oz of Balsamic Vinegar
3-4oz of EVOO
1 pack of Splenda
Italian Seasoning
Garlic seasoning
Onion Power/Salt
Parmigiana

Mix well and pour over salad. I don't know how much you put of anything. Just experiment and enjoy. It always turns out different, but every good.

As I was creating the homemade salad dressing last night I started to laugh. This is how my DAD cooks. He never uses a recipe or has a clue what is going on in the kitchen. He just cooks. I've taken a lot of things I do in the kitchen from my dad. So thanks, Dad for teaching me how to be a good cook. And thanks God, for make sure Andy isn't a picky eater. Because if he was then I don't think he would eat much with me in the kitchen.

My true love...

Last week I was reading one of my favorite wedding related sites, Wedding Bee. It's a great site that brides and newly married blog about their wedding planning and other related issues. Well, one of the "Bees" made a top ten list of why she loved her finance. I've finally been inspired to write my own top ten list about Andy.

10. He always strives to be comfortable in his clothing. He is truly a shorts and t-shirt type of guy any day of the week. The first day I met him, it was at Mass at the Holy Family Shrine in Ashland, NE (it's on I-80 between Omaha and Lincoln). It was a young adult event to continue at the park. Well Andy was wearing a t-shirt and swim trunks. It's gets better he was lecturing in those swim trunks. I should have know his style right then.

9. He does dress up for church or when I request. And he has allowed me to fill his closet with more than just t-shirts and shorts. But I do get him a new shirts when I travel.

8. He teaches auto tech at the local high school. Therefore, he has his students' fix my car. I get free labor!

7. He is very skillful and can fix almost anything. Plus having a trade himself, he seems to know just about anyone in Omaha that can fit, repair, build, or whatever you need.

6. His faith is awesome! I'm so happy that I've found someone I can share my own faith with. I enjoy discussing God, praying, and everything that goes along with our faith.

5. He supports me like none other. I know he is available for me to lean on for whatever I need. He is a much better listener than me. I could not married a talker. I do enough for both of us.

4. He loves to drive! When we travel any where he is the first to get into the driver's seat and take off. Even if it's my little Cavalier. There have been several times that he has driven the whole way from STL to Omaha.

3. We laugh all the time. We joke to each other all the time. I'm happy when I'm with him.

2. He puts up with me and he can't get rid of me. (Read #3)

1. Not a day goes bye that he doesn't tells me the I'm crazy. I look forward to it daily. It's another way he tells me he loves me. Plus he has be be crazy to love me!

Why do you love your finance/husband?

Oh how I love the...

Yes, I do enjoy Spring and it's finally here! It is unseasonably warm here in Omaha, Nebraska. This is the 3rd day with temps in the 60's! Yes, the 60's! It's awesome. But like everything it won't last.

Wedding update...
Things have been going really well lately. I guess I'm getting close to keep putting things off. This last weekend, I traveled to Kansas City to meet my family for the Michael Buble concert at the Sprint Center. Michael put on a great show. I'm not a huge fan of his, but I do enjoy his music. We will be using "Everything" for our Anniversary dance at our wedding reception. As for the Sprint Center, I'll use my good friend Helen to explain the building. "It's like a flying saucer landed in downtown KC." Helen, March 9, 2008. She is right.

While we were in KC, we spent all day Saturday at Overland Park Mall in Overland Park, KS. They have some good stores. We went because we needed to start looking for mother of the bride dresses for mom. Well, every sucked for MOB dresses. However, we had some great finds. I got all the candles on sale for the women that are hosting my bridal showers. I even found a cake and knife server at Dillard's. While shopping we stopped at Dillards to check out what they had. The sales woman was great. She asked my price range then walked me around the whole department. Her final stop was this white Waterford box. She opens it with saying this is 75% off the original price. YES!! It is very nice and such a great deal. I don't have pictures of the set because I'm getting it as a shower gift in April.

My sister (MOH) is graduating in May from K-State (GO Wildcats!). Em was able to find 2 nice dresses for graduation and the rehearsal.

Other wedding checks include finding the flower girl dress. It's awesome! Mom found it at Marshall's for $30! I totally recommend looking outside the box from traditional bridal shops for your little ones. Why anyone would spend over $100 on a little girls dress she is going to wear once? I don't understand it.

Mom also had good luck finding a dress. I'll see it in April at my shower weekend.

We stopped at Hobby Lobby last night to pick up something for my bride's maids gifts. I'm not sharing because they might read this. While walking in to store I saw that candles were on sale. I only went in for 1 thing. However, I walked out with 9 dozen white votive candles in glass containers and 14 pillars. The votive candles were $0.20 each. I'm so proud of my find. I can hardly believe it my self.

Those are my updates for now. Have a great day and I'm off for a massage!!!! I need some relaxation.

When will it be over?

This winter is really, really long and I ready to head into Spring! On March 1, 2007, Omaha Metro had a HUGE snow storm. So we're really not that far off in time this year. However, I think we're received more snow amounts. In fact, overnight we're predicted to get a "dusting" of MORE SNOW!

Next weekend is Palm Sunday and it doesn't feel like Easter will be here before we know it. It is way to cold outside for Easter. However, this is the earliest Easter can ever be.

Good things to look forward to in the spring:
1. Spring Break! As a student services professional, I don't get a "spring break" like students and teachers. We are here all the time. Yes, I said all the time. However, it's nice to give the students a break.

2. Flowers! I love them.

3. No sweaters! I love my sweaters in the fall & winter. However, it is time for them to be packed up and put away for the season.

4. Skirts. Now who doesn't love to wear a cute skirt once in a while? I love wearing skirts when it is warm outside. I hate it when it's cold. Thus the reason I don't wear them in winter if I don't have to.

5. Longer daylight. It seems people are happier and more active when the sun is out. I know Andy is totally different in spring/summer than with the cold winter months. I don't think we could live in a place with little sunlight.

Well those are just somethings to look forward to as the days get longer and the weather finally get better. Yes, I know I'll be complaining about the extremely hot days in July/August. I live in the Mid-West, this is what you get!

What are you looking forward to this spring?

Blog Tag!

Thanks, Amanda for thinking of me.

Any who, I've been blog tagged.

Here are the rules: Link to the person who tagged you. Post the rules on your blog. Share seven random and/or weird facts about yourself on your blog. Tag seven random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs. Leave a comment on their blogs so that they know they have been tagged!

1. I hate starting to snorkel, but I love it once I'm in the water watching all the fish and the reefs. For some reason, it's the scariest thing to put my head into the ocean and swim out to sea. My sister hates when we're out snorkeling and I need to take a real breath and look up to see how far we've traveled from shore.

2. I never met a stranger. When I was a little kid, like 2 to 3 years old, I would go up to people in the store and ask them questions. My parents said my favorite question was "Where's your honey?" This one time I asked this really old lady at the grocery store. My parents were freaked out at what her response would be. However, she relied that her honey was in heaven.

3. I love coffee. I like it American style or Espresso; it really doesn't matter how I drink it. In fact I'm drinking my second cup this morning. With all the coffee I drink I do know my limitations. One Christmas season I was working at the Don DeFoe's Flowers. I stopped at Starbucks on my way to work and ordered a Grande Gingerbread Latte. This is by far my favorite holiday drink at Starbucks. The nice barista accidentally made me a Venti Gingerbread Latte. Well that was a big mistake on her part. That extra shot of espresso shot me into over drive at work. I could not sit down for a few hours because I was running around the shop like a chicken with my head cut off.

4. I enjoy theater! I really love musicals and big Broadway theater production. When I was studying abroad in London, England I saw 24 West End production. West End is the London verison of Broadway in New York. I was there for 4 months so I had some time. Right now my favorite musical is Mama Mia! There is a movie coming out this summer!

5. I love to travel. I've been to so many places that I don't even want to count them. I've been to Europe 4 times. And I can't way to go back.

6. My wish travel list: Peru, Alaska, South Africa, Southeast Asia

7. I think my future mother-in-law loves me more than her own son. For example, I'm going to move in with my future mother-in-law before the wedding. It just for 6 weeks between my apartment lease ending and the wedding. I'm only kidding. I know she loves her son.

Who am I going to tag? Erin, Shannon, Amy, Jessica, Brea, Lisa, and Melissa & Baby. Have fun!

Decisions to make

There are many decision to make when planning a wedding. Sometimes I want to have control over those decisions. Those are like the big things: date, location, invites, etc. And other times I really could care less. For example, I let my sister and another bride's maid pick out the bride's maid dresses. I had 2 request: tea length and blue but not cornflower. Why be so brave with a "major" wedding decision? Well, the way I figure it is I'm not wearing the dress. I just have to approve that it looks good on the girls. I'm happy with the decision they have made.

Here are my sister (MOH), jr. bride's maid and another bride's maid in their dresses at Thanksgiving. Yes they have clothes. Dresses are from David's.

We're at the 4 1/2 month mark of the wedding. Do you notice everything is a "mark"? And the little details are the crazy ones that I really don't know what to do. For example, font choices of the invites. Invites are the first impression a guest gets of your wedding. That's a big deal! And I just want someone to pick something that looks good together. I'm not the graphics person! Hopefully I'll get that figured out soon. I have a short time to do so because they need to be printed.
Other little details lately: flower girl dress, garter/dress label, candles for the reception, honeymoon flights, the list goes on and on!
When is my honeymoon again? I wish I was on the ship today.
